We Reveal SEO Beginner Tips, Tricks, and Secrets

Today I will be talking about search engine optimisation and effective ways to optimise a website. This also has a little to do with internet marketing, and after this I really hope that the concept of search engine optimisation is understood.

So I’m going to share my knowledge of what SEO (or search engine optimisation) is, why it’s important, how to get a website listed, and different ways a website is optimised to increase its page rank for its intended audience.

To begin, I will relate a theoretical story. “John Doe has recently started a business where he expects to sell his product online through his e-commerce website. He gets his website online and weeks have gone by without a sale or even anyone visiting his website”. John Doe, needs to learn about something called search engine optimisation.

Well, I’m not John Doe, but I have been in the same position as him when I started my first online business. Now, after a constant and never ending study I have made of the not-exact science of search engine optimisation, I have been able to attract visitors to my website, and even make a few sales. I have even helped other businesses with their websites and have had successful results. I actually just got an e-mail from a client of mine this weekend saying “You are awesome! I have a client coming in a few minutes that found me online. Thank you so much”.

So if you ever run a small business, or happen to know someone who does, the information I will give should help to understand what it takes to get a website found on the internet. The principles given should also appertain to any website, blog, or online profile on the world wide web.

I will now share a broad spectrum of my knowledge on search engine optimisation.

First I would like to inform you about what exactly SEO is. Second I’m going to tell you its further importance on the grand scheme of the internet, and third I’m going to tell you some ways to get a website optimised for search engine results.

Search engine optimisation is characterised by the process of targeting a specific website, page, or blog to be indexed to the top results of a search query on a search engine, such as Google.

Why is SEO important?

Now that you know what it is, you might ask, why is it important? Well, SEO reduces the time spent searching. The extent of time is hard to measure, but we do know that something like Google Instant (which is a new search enhancement offered by Google) is able to save a lot of time. Google stated on their website that “If everyone uses Google Instant globally, we estimate this will save more than 3.5 billion seconds per day. That’s the equivalent of saving 11 hours per second”. Matt Cutts, a Google engineer and SEO expert said that “it equals out to about 500 lifespans per year”.

So if users have a hard time finding what they want because of bad website optimisation, then they are spending more time searching, than they are finding and getting to what they are looking for. Does that make sense?

SEO is important to any business owner, period. Utilising local terms and names of cities within the pages of a business website can drastically improve the connection between a business and a customer. The reason for this is that when most people enter a search query for a product, service, or brand, they usually include the name of a city or part of a city within the search query.

So for example, when you pulled up computer repair service in rosemount, you all saw all of the search results for the area of the city of rosemount. That’s because the name of the city Rosemount has been included in those pages. Any business who has not optimised their selves with Google is not included in the search at all. Thus losing any potential business from the online market place.

Getting your website indexed

So now that you know why it’s important to be indexed and why search engine optimisation is important in web search, I will tell you ways of getting indexed.

First and foremost, is submitting your web address to Google so it knows to crawl and index your website. So for this you can visit Google and search /add URL and Google’s add web address page will show up. Then you just fill in the information and your website will be queued for Google to visit. Bing and Yahoo! Have similar pages you can add your website too.

There are also plenty of local and business directories you can submit your website to, although the quality of these links are low, which means:

1. Not a whole lot of your customers will be looking through these directories to find your service and

2. Search engines like Google rank these directory websites with a lower score so you’re recognition from a search engine will be minimal from these links.

Have good website structure. If it’s easy for people to read, it’s also easy for search engines to read. Also, make sure to utilise keywords. When you’re adding keywords to a website think of what your potential audience might type into a search engine in order to find you. These are the keywords that are ideal. Also make sure that your keywords are relevant to the various titles of your website and that your description accurately describes what the website is all about.

More useful SEO tips

Another tip in getting indexed is don’t cheat. Putting keywords at the bottom of your page that match the color of your background to trick search engines is a bad idea and will likely get your website banned from future indexing.

If you use images, also use text to describe those images. Search engines cannot interpret images like we can so they need you to describe it in text (in other words, use a caption).

Having a blog attached to your website will give you the opportunity to constantly add fresh new content which search engines love to see.

Marketing your webpage

As far as marketing your web page goes, use social media and advertise the heck out of your web page to your friends and family. You’d be surprised to find out how many people will visit your website when you put it on Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and Twitter. I know I was surprised when I did it for the first time.

In conclusion

In conclusion, SEO is a vital tool in marketing a website and attracting visitors. I hope that you have a grasp on the concept of search engine optimisation and its use and many many benefits. If you would like to find out more about SEO, Google it, and you will likely find what you’re looking for.
